Oklahoma
Marathon has been actively involved in exploration and production in Oklahoma for more than 70 years. The Company has well-established production in the Anadarko Basin from operations Marathon had discoveries extending the Rocky Field in Washita County and the Huntley Field in Caddo County in 2009 through successful exploration and appraisal drilling. Marathon holds more than 35,000 net undeveloped acres in key strategic exploration projects along the Wichita Mt. Front and the Deep Anadarko Basin. In 2010, the Company plans to participate in five to 10 wells targeting deep gas reservoirs, focusing on appraisal and delineation activity from exploration discoveries of 2008 and 2009. In 2009, the Company participated and operated in a successful 13-well appraisal program in the Brickyard (Woodford) prospect, located in the northeast area of the Anadarko Basin, targeting the Woodford Shale resource play in Canadian County, Oklahoma. Year-end 2009 production from completed Woodford wells totals 6 million cubic feet of natural gas equivalent per day (mmcfed) net, with the Company holding an average 35 percent working interest. Initial production ranges from 2.5 to 5.5 mmcfd. The Company currently holds 52,000 net acres in the core of the emerging Woodford Shale play. Marathon plans to participate in 10 to 15 gross wells in the Woodford Shale through 2010. Marathon expects that with the successful development of this program, the play could yield an additional 200 to 300 net locations, with net resource potential of 170 to 270 mmboe. |
