St. Paul Park, Minnesota

The St. Paul Park refinery, built in 1939, was acquired by Ashland Inc. in 1970 from Northwestern Refining and became fully owned by Marathon in 2005. It is one of only two refineries in Minnesota. The refinery has a capacity of 74,000 barrels per day.

The refinery receives all of its crude supply via pipeline and processes predominantly Canadian
and upper Midwest produced crudes. Refinery operations include crude fractionation, catalytic cracking, hydrotreating, reforming, alkylation, sulfur recovery and a hydrogen plant.

The product slate consists of gasoline, distillate, asphalt, heavy fuel oil, propane, propylene and sulfur. The refinery also makes low sulfur gasoline and ULSD. The refinery is certified as a Minnesota VPP site, receiving Rising Star status, and expects to satisfy the requirements for STAR status in 2010.
