CSR PERFORMANCE REPORTINGMarathon understands that reporting non-financial performance (including HES and CSR) is an important tool for measuring progress and advancing stakeholder dialogue. Marathon is committed to providing periodic reports that provide an accurate, balanced and reasonable account of its CSR performance. In April 2005, Marathon published the 2004 Living Our Values Brochure and the accompanying 2004 Living Our Values Report Card. The Brochure provided examples of the many ways Marathon employees actively live the core corporate values of Health and Safety; Environmental Stewardship; Honesty and Integrity; Corporate Citizenship; and High Performance Team Culture. The 2005 Living Our Values Report Card, released in June 2006, updated the 2004 Report Card with performance metrics from 2005. In June 2007, Marathon published a more complete 2006 Corporate Social Responsibility Report. The report contained information on Marathon's environmental, health and safety, social and economic performance in 2006. A 2007 CSR Report was issued in June 2008. This report includes improved "global" metrics as well as greenhouse gas emissions, oil spill numbers and volumes, and safety performance data. Also included are descriptions of policies, programs and practices to provide relevant and meaningful information regarding the Company's operations and non-financial performance. These reports are based on the Oil & Gas Industry Guidance on Voluntary Sustainability Reporting, published jointly by the American Petroleum Institute (API) and the International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association (IPIECA). The API/IPIECA Guidance provides a common framework for the petroleum industry to use in reporting non-financial performance. Hard copies of the Living Our Values documents are available by e-mailing CSRReport@marathonoil.com. |
