Human RightsMarathon respects the human, cultural and legal rights of individuals and communities and, within its sphere of influence and legitimate business role, promotes fundamental human and worker rights in accordance with the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). Our commitment to the UDHR is underscored through our participation in the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights. This international initiative guides extractive companies in maintaining the safety and security of their operations globally within a framework that ensures respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. Marathon provides training on human rights and the Voluntary Principles to employees, especially key supervisory and security staff working designated international assignments. The training focuses on human rights principles as well as our human rights commitments through relationships with different stakeholders, such as employees, partners, contractors, host governments and communities. Training is delivered in specific areas, including new entry operations, as part of our standard due diligence procedures in new countries of operation. The Company also supports the U.N. Global Compact, a voluntary initiative to promote responsible corporate citizenship so that businesses can contribute to the resolution of challenges resulting from globalization. The Global Compact asks participants to embrace, support and enact within their sphere of influence, 10 principles that focus on human rights, labor, the environment and anti-corruption. Marathon already applies the 10 principles as part of its business practices and cross-references these principles to performance indicators in the Company's annual CSR report. |
