Human Rights

Marathon respects the human, cultural and legal rights of individuals and communities and, within its relationships with stakeholders and legitimate business role, promotes fundamental human and worker rights in accordance with the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). Our commitment to the UDHR is underscored through our participation in the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights. This international initiative guides extractive companies in maintaining the safety and security of their operations globally within a framework that ensures respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms.

Marathon conducts human rights risk assessments for existing and new ventures as part of the Company's due diligence procedures, and provides training on human rights and the Voluntary Principles to select employees working in international assignments.

The Company also supports the U.N. Global Compact's 10 principles on human rights, labor, the environment and anti-corruption. Marathon applies the principles as part of its business practices and cross-references these principles to performance indicators in the Company's annual CSR report.
