Marathon Oil Corporation recognizes that its actions and operations affect a broad range of stakeholders including communities, investors, employees, customers, suppliers, business partners and host governments. The Company has long-established core values associated with health and safety, environmental stewardship, honesty and integrity, corporate citizenship, and a high performance team. These are the values that Marathon strives to demonstrate every day.
Marathon's 2007 Living Our Values Corporate Social Responsibility Report provides information on the Company's non-financial performance, and its actions to promote sustainable social, environmental and economic benefits.
The Report is based on the Oil & Gas Industry Guidance on Voluntary Sustainability Reporting, published jointly by the International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association (IPIECA) and the American Petroleum Institute (API). The IPIECA/API Guidance provides a common framework for the petroleum industry to use in reporting non-financial performance. Marathon has included quantitative metrics and descriptions of policies, programs and practices to provide relevant and meaningful information about the Company's operations and non-financial performance.
Marathon's business comprises four segments Upstream (exploration and production), Oil Sands Mining, Integrated Gas and Downstream (refining, marketing and transportation). Marathon reports performance on a global, corporate-wide basis. Additional information may be reported by business components to furnish more depth. For some measures, results for Speedway SuperAmerica LLC (SSA), Marathon's wholly owned retail marketing subsidiary, are shown separately.
Results are reported for those operations under direct Marathon management and operational control, rather than on an equity (net share) basis. Accordingly, this Report does not include results for Marathon's interest in the non-operated Athabasca Oil Sands Project, which was acquired in October 2007.

The restoration project was inspired by Marathon's core value of environmental stewardship and a commitment to Responsible Care®. The 80-acre site is certified by the nonprofit Wildlife Habitat Council and was selected to be a demonstration site for the National Wild Turkey Federation. Marathon has approximately 1,460 acres of certified habitat in 14 locations.
